Tankless Water Heaters: Tech & Installation
Do cast aluminum water heaters really stop hard water scale?
Yes. They significantly reduce scale buildup compared to traditional copper heaters.
Traditional copper elements heat up too quickly in concentrated areas, causing the calcium in hard water to crystallize instantly. Cast aluminum solves this through thermal engineering:
- Even Heat Distribution: The massive aluminum block acts as a heat sink, eliminating the extreme "hot spots" where scale forms fastest.
- Water/Electricity Separation: Water flows through seamless channels cast directly into the metal, never touching exposed coils.
- Actionable takeaway: If your home has hard water, choosing cast aluminum means fewer acid flushes and a longer unit lifespan.
What size wire and breaker do I need for an electric tankless water heater?
It strictly depends on the kW (kilowatt) rating of the unit you purchase. Electric tankless heaters draw substantial amperage and cannot be plugged into a standard wall outlet.
For safe, NEC-compliant installation, you generally need:
- For an 11kW Unit: Typically requires one dedicated 60-Amp double-pole breaker and 6 AWG copper wiring.
- For a 27kW Unit: Typically requires three dedicated 40-Amp double-pole breakers and three sets of 8 AWG copper wiring.
- Important Notice: Always consult a licensed electrician to verify your home's main electrical panel has sufficient total capacity (usually 200A or higher) before purchasing a whole-home electric unit.
Are your tankless water heater fittings compatible with US plumbing codes?
Yes. All Mizudo water heaters feature standard NPT (National Pipe Thread) connections.
You will not need obscure adapters. Depending on the model, the water inlet/outlet will be either 1/2" NPT or 3/4" NPT, seamlessly integrating with standard US residential plumbing. Furthermore, the units are evaluated against CSA standards for North American electrical and plumbing compliance.
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems: Operation & Maintenance
Can I connect a tankless RO system to my refrigerator ice maker?
Yes, but we strongly recommend adding an inline mini-pressure tank.
Here is why: Refrigerator solenoid valves require a sudden, sustained burst of water pressure (typically 35-40 PSI) to trigger the ice maker. Because tankless RO systems generate pressure on-demand via an internal pump, a slight delay in line pressure occurs.
- The Solution: Installing a small 1-to-2-gallon pressure buffer tank on the line running to your fridge ensures instant, high-pressure water delivery, preventing ice maker malfunctions and strange clicking noises.
How much wastewater does a tankless RO system produce?
Mizudo systems achieve an ultra-efficient 1.5:1 or 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio.
Traditional passive RO systems waste an enormous amount of water, often draining 3 to 4 gallons for every 1 gallon purified. By utilizing an integrated smart micro-computer and internal DC booster pump, our tankless design optimizes membrane feed pressure.
- The Result: You get up to 2 gallons of pure drinking water for every 1 gallon sent to the drain, drastically reducing your utility bills while maintaining the necessary cross-flow to flush contaminants.
How often do I need to change the RO filters and how much do they cost?
Filter replacements are affordable and required only 1-2 times per year, depending on your local water quality.
- PCF (Pre-Carbon Filter): Replace every 6 to 12 months. This protects the RO membrane by filtering out large sediments and chlorine.
- RO Membrane: Replace every 12 to 24 months. This is the heavy-duty barrier that removes heavy metals and micro-contaminants.
- DIY Replacement: Our twist-and-pull modular cartridges allow you to replace filters in under 5 seconds without shutting off your home's main water valve or calling a plumber.
